Thurrock athletes competed in National Championships around the country this weekend (23-24 February)
Two runners competed in the National Cross Country Championships at Leeds both giving fine performances over a very tough hilly course. Leon Wheeler had a brilliant performance coming in 15th position in a field of 300 runners, Alec Finch finished with a credible position of 390th having to run with an Achilles problem in a field of over 2000 runners.
Over in Sheffield, at the England Athletics Indoor Age Group Championships, Funminiyi Olajide was competing in her first year in the U20 age group. Her Long Jump of 5.94m saw her just missing out on medal
