A serious athlete does not reach the top in this sport by not pitching himself against the best. On Saturday a group of Brenda Stone’s athletes did just that by travelling to Milton Keynes for the British Athletics cross challenge, which is attended by top athletes from all over the UK.

Take 17 year old Leon Wheeler for example. He had won the Billericay 10k the previous week and features high in all local races. This weekend, on Saturday, he was 22nd in the under 20’s section, still in this context a fine effort.

Jane Elvin, also a winner in local runs, held up well to finish 12th, in the under 15 girl’s Demi Eves did not let herself down either in the under 17’s where she was 21st.

In a huge field of under 11’s, Olivia Forrest was 10th and her sister Isabell 15th – both eye catching efforts.

Other finishers:

Under 20’s Taylor Newell 38th, Ben Prior 39th

Under 17’s Dylan Harrod 47th

Well done all
